New York Times Bestseller!

From the New York Times bestselling author of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, an intoxicating, hypnotic new novel set in a dreamlike alternative reality.

Piranesi's house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself. He lives to explore the house.

There is one other person in the house-a man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge. But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel, revealing a world beyond the one Piranesi has always known.

For readers of Neil Gaiman's The Ocean at the End of the Lane and fans of Madeline Miller's Circe, Piranesi introduces an astonishing new world, an infinite labyrinth, full of startling images and surreal beauty, haunted by the tides and the clouds.

Can’t recommend enough. The mystery aspect is cool, but the main draw is the story’s protagonist. Such a lovable character.
  • Couldn’t put it down!

This story is mysterious and enchanting in a way I haven’t experienced before in a book.
  • A master piece

The beauty of this book is immeasurable, it’s kindness, infinite.
  • Fascinating

Okay—this book is strange. I usually read pretty mainstream fiction (and a lot of it) so this book, especially at first, felt literally like a different world. BUT I could not put it down! I read it in a few days and loved it. The main character’s simplistic perception of the world was so incredibly refreshing.

Solid read. I was so tempted to google and find out who He is, but I’m so glad I waited and read. A great mystery twist I was not expecting!
  • Beautifully written and unique

After reading the sample I was intrigued, but I still had no idea what to expect. I decided to take the plunge and purchase anyway and I’m so glad I did. This book is engaging, at times heart wrenching and also so different than anything I’ve ever read. I couldn’t put it down! Highly recommend!
  • A Surprise

This book was not the usual book I look for when reading. I am not a fan of fantasy and yet because of a novel I stumbled upon this summer, I have found myself in a new reading world. This book takes you away immediately into a world of beauty and yet it is a world of loneliness at the same time. The main character knows this world like the artist he is named after knows his artwork. It is a world of frozen mysteries, constant love, changing tides and a sea that will provide for you. And that is just what fills the house. There is a selfish plot that comes to its just conclusion. The main character then must decide whether to stay or to go back to our world. Our world is reality in all its messy outcomes. The House is creativity, imagination and so much love with its birds, its quietness and its beautiful water. There is a sense of fairness and justice in the ending. The metaphor this writer creates for existence between reality and imagination with their different demands is beautifully developed and surprisingly connected.
  • search is broken on books for mac

The book itself is 5 stars for me, but there's something wrong with ibooks edition. Whenever I try to search for any substring of a chapter title, e.g. "prophet", the mac app crashes for me with an NSRangeException iBooks is always pushing book updates at me, I would really like an update that fixes search?
  • Thoughtful and Surprisingly Deep

I thought this book was very fulfilling. Much shorter than the lauded Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrel, this book is a little faster paced and kept me turning the pages until there weren’t anymore! I wish I could read it again not knowing where it was going to end up. Definitely a recommended read from me!
